Where leather
turned to silk.
As early as the 16th century, the white leather tanners settled outside the gates of Vienna and gave a whole quarter its name. Their craft demanded patience, precision and a feel for materials. From simple hides they made fine, supple leather. The finest of all: glacé leather, so remarkably soft it reminded people of silk.
At Untere Weißgerberstraße 54, the spirit of that craft lives on. Behind the classically structured façade, the history of the place meets contemporary living. The renovation preserves what makes the house what it is.
